Parking step 1

Step 1:

  • Signal right
  • Position the car 2 feet away from the space

Parking step 2

Step 2:

  • Stop when the front outside cone is visible in the corner of the rear passenger door window

Parking step 3

Step 3:

  • Turn the wheel all the way right, then back up until all 3 cones are visible in the driver side mirror and stop

Parking step 4

Step 4:

  • Turn the wheel 1 and 1/2 to the left, then reverse until the front outside cone is near the passenger windshield wiper and stop

Parking step 5

Step 5:

  • Turn the wheel all the way left, then reverse until the car is straight and stop

License candidates will now venture onto public roads after successfully completing maneuvers on a closed course. The closed course includes Parallel Parking and a Reverse Two Point Turnabout. This is a lengthy term to describe backing into a parking space on the right. The old turnabout and backing in a straight line have been eliminated from the test.

The MVA has also issued a guide called “How to Prepare for Your Drivers Test” that you may pick up from the Bel Air MVA, Premier Driving School or download here.

On testing day you must present the following documents to the MVA:

  • Learner’s Permit
  • 60 Hour Certification Form
  • Vehicle registration
  • Proof of Insurance

Also on testing day the examiner will inspect your vehicle for the following item:

  • 1/2 tank of gas or more
  • No dashboard warning lights illuminated
  • Car must be reasonably clean and free of debris
  • Must be able to pass a Maryland Safety Inspection

Now that it has finally stopped snowing, check the list below for the updated drivers education classroom schedules. The list below might be kind of intimidating. Please call 410-877-7100 or 443-969-2241 from Essex if you have any questions or if you have a conflict with any of the dates and times.  We can make alternative arrangements on a case by case basis.

Bel Air

The 3 PM to 5:10 PM class that started on February 3rd will now run from February 17th to March 5th at the regular time.


The 6 PM to 9:10 PM class that started on January 25th will make up their last two sessions:

  • Session 9: February 12th from 11 AM to 2:10 PM
  • Session 10: February 13th from 6 PM to 9:10 PM


The 6 PM to 9:10 PM class that was scheduled to start on February 10th will now be as follows:

  • Session 1: February 12th from 3 PM to 6:10 PM
  • Session 2: February 14th from 11 AM to 2:10 PM
  • Sessions 3-10: February 15 to February 25th from 6 PM to 9:10 PM


The 3 PM to 6:10 PM Weekend class that started on January 16th will resume classes starting February 13th and 14th.  We will extend the class to February 20th, 21st at regular time and February 28th from 11 AM to 2:10 PM to make up the missed sessions.

Abingdon

The 6 PM to 9:10 PM class that started on January 25th will make up their last two sessions:

  • Session 9: February 13th from 10 AM to 1:10 PM
  • Session 10: February 14th from 10 AM to 1:10 PM

Essex

The 3 PM to 5:10 PM class that started on February 2nd will now run from February 17th to March 4th at the regular time.
